Afrobasket Males: Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco reach last eight phase
After winning their two first matches, Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal have secured qualification for the last eight contest in the 29th edition of the Afrobasket for men, while Angola which lost its last game finds itself is in difficulty situation
Nigeria (Group A), Morocco (Group B), Tunisia (Group C) and Senegal (Group D) have defeated Mali Angola, Rwanda and Egypt 87-52, thus securing their tickets to the quarter finals stage.
Of all the wins, Morocco’s 60-53 defeat of Angola was the most surprising. Considered one of the favourites of the tournament, the “Palencas Negras" overcame Uganda with great difficulty (94-89 after extra time). They will take on CAR for the last game on Sunday.
In group C, Rwanda and Cameroon (1 win and 1 defeat each) will compete for the 2nd place required to make it to the next stage. Guinea after conceding two defeats is already eliminated.
In group A, the second qualifying ticket will be played between Mali and DR Congo, each team having secured one win and suffering one defeat. Cote d'Ivoire was defeated.
Finally, Egypt and Mozambique each with a victory and a defeat, are competing for their survival in the tournament in group D. After losing two games South Africa is out of the competition.
